Universal Safeguarding Training for Schools and Colleges

Keeping Children Safe in Education 2021 makes it clear that all staff members should receive school safeguarding training and child protection training, which should be regularly updated. These updates should be in line with advice from the Local Safeguarding Children Partnership.

School safeguarding training course content

This School safeguarding training course is designed to update the knowledge and skills of all staff in the setting. It is a three-hour course which covers the following areas;

Session 1 – Learners will refresh their understanding of what child abuse is and how it can be recognised. This will include an awareness of emerging safeguarding concerns such as radicalisation, ‘honour-based’ violence, children missing from education and ‘County lines’.

Session 2 – During this session learners will receive updates on national and local changes to safeguarding practice, guidance and reporting pathways.

Session 3 – In this final session learners will have the opportunity to use the knowledge gained from the previous sessions, using scenarios to apply their understanding of abuse and how to manage disclosure. There is a particular emphasis on developing the learner’s confidence to act on their concerns, recognising that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. It also provides the opportunity to build a team understanding of how within the environment they can work together to safeguarding children.

This Schools Safeguarding training course can be provided to up to 40 delegates. However, it is also suitable for smaller groups. It can also be tailored to meet the needs of the setting. It is delivered by our trainer who has extensive experience in safeguarding and child protection both at operational and management levels.
