Michelle has worked and progressed within the early years sector for nearly 25 years. She started out as an apprentice in a High Scope nursery and instantly fell in love with everything about working with children.
As an apprentice, Michelle gained her Level 2 and 3 NVQ in Early Years Care and Education, as well as an Advanced Apprenticeship and Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Practice. During her training, Michelle progressed from Early Years Educator to Room Leader.
In 2005, Michelle paused briefly to have her son—”briefly” not being an understatement! She returned to work with her 3-month-old son, excited to continue her own progression while also immersing her son in the wonderful world of early years.
While developing her skills as a Room Leader, Michelle was quickly recognised for her leadership qualities. She started to consider leadership roles and additional training, deciding to take some time out of nurseries to nanny, which offered her more flexibility to upskill herself and spend additional time with her son ahead of his transition to big school.
In 2009, Michelle started her first role as Nursery Deputy Manager and was quickly promoted to Nursery Manager. She worked hard to apply her skills and implement a truly inspiring curriculum into the nursery, which had been rated as Requires Improvement by Ofsted. By 2012, Michelle had transformed the nursery, and she and her team were recognised for these efforts by Ofsted, which awarded them a Good grading with six areas of Outstanding, one of which was for Leadership and Management.
From 2009 up until 2025, Michelle continued to lead and manage multiple teams, progressing through roles such as Childcare and Education Manager, Head of Early Years, and Company Childcare Director, where she was the Ofsted nominated individual for 106 nurseries.
Michelle has experience working internationally with childcare quality teams in the Netherlands and Germany, collaborating on philosophy and ethos, as well as high-quality curriculum and best practice. This was particularly exciting for Michelle, as in her spare time, she and her husband love to travel, and they have a huge bucket list of countries they are eager to visit in the future.
Of all these achievements, Michelle is most proud of the work she has done with teams and individuals to help them reach their full potential. She has developed teams and nursery settings to achieve sustainable, long-term success and outstanding Ofsted recognition; she has also motivated and inspired individuals to progress within their own careers, including becoming senior leaders within the childcare sector themselves.
With a son at university and a moment to reflect, Michelle wanted to get back to her roots and what she feels most passionate about doing. That is when she crossed paths with Kelly and was introduced to Tricia at the end of 2025. Michelle has become the newest consultant at MBK Group, joining the team in January 2026. Not unlike Kelly, Michelle has two mischievous cats that love a bit of Zoom/Teams airtime—watch out for the not-so-subtle over-the-shoulder appearances during calls!
